Long ago, there was a small village surrounded by dark forests. At the edge of the village, on a lonely hill, stood an old wooden house. Nobody lived there anymore. People said it was haunted, but nobody was brave enough to check.
One rainy evening, three friends—Sam, Emma, and David—decided to explore the house. They wanted to prove that the ghost stories were not real. With only a small lantern, they climbed the muddy hill. The air grew colder with every step.
When they reached the house, the door creaked open by itself. The sound echoed through the night. Inside, the smell of dust and rotten wood filled their noses. Cobwebs covered the corners, and the wooden floor made strange noises under their feet.
Suddenly, they heard footsteps upstairs.
But nobody else was there.
“Maybe it’s the wind,” David whispered nervously.
The three friends slowly climbed the stairs. At the top, they saw a long hallway with broken doors on each side. At the end of the hallway, a shadow moved quickly into one of the rooms.
Emma held Sam’s arm tightly. “Did you see that?” she asked.
“Yes,” Sam said. His voice was shaking.
They entered the room. It was empty—except for a big cracked mirror standing against the wall. Their lantern light reflected weakly in the glass. As they stepped closer, the mirror fogged up as if someone was breathing on it. Then, slowly, a word appeared:
“LEAVE.”
Emma screamed, but the door slammed shut behind them. They pulled and pulled, but it would not open. The mirror started to shake, and from inside it, pale hands pressed against the glass, trying to come out.
The friends shouted and hit the door. At last, it opened by itself, and they ran down the stairs without looking back. Outside, the rain poured heavily, but they kept running until they reached the village.
From that day, none of them spoke about what happened. But sometimes, at night, they dreamed of the mirror—and the hands waiting inside.
